All posts for the month November, 2014

It’s time for “Kids4Turkeys”! CISD’s Annual Turkey Drive is set for Friday, November 21, from 7:30 – 9:00 a.m. Drop-off stations for frozen turkeys will be set-up at every CISD campus and at the Vonita White Administration Building. You can purchase turkeys online and save the hassle of trekking to the store and bringing it to the school; be sure to select “Valley Ranch Elementary” as the CISD school when donating online. VRE has donated more turkeys than any other school the past few years but the rumor is that other schools are gunning for the title this year so be sure to donate one way or the other!

Also, the VRE Dads Club will help collect the turkeys in the student drop off lines at Valley Ranch Elementary. We need 4 volunteers to arrive to the school next Friday morning at 7:20AM to help collect the turkeys. You will be finished by 8:00AM so it shouldn’t interrupt your work schedule. Please register or contact me if you can help out. Gobble Gobble!

Campers having fun!

Campers having fun!

The Dads Club will be sponsoring a camp out in the VRE school gym again this year. We have reserved the gym for Friday night, December 12th beginning at 6:30PM and the gym must be vacated by 8AM the next morning. This was a very popular fund raising event for the dads club last year which featured pizza and soft drinks, movies, games, snacks and a poker tournament for the dads. We expect the cost and offering to be the same as last year but more details and registration instructions are forthcoming. For now please mark your calendar and plan to attend this fun event!

Dads,

We will have our next dads club meeting tomorrow at 7PM in the VRE Library. Topics we will discuss include:

  • Turkey Donation Collection
  • Camp Out in Gym
  • Alternate meeting night, place and time (poll results)
Please come out to support our school; we can use the help.
Sincerely,
Doug Stephan
VRE Dads Club President

Hundreds of students, parents, grandparents and friends came out to VRE on Thursday evening to attend the 2014 Community Night.  Participants enjoyed delicious food from several food trucks, bounce houses, games, a “Star Walk”, face and henna painting, and a silent auction, among other things. This was the first year to have food trucks and more activities outside, and it was a great format change by all indicators.2014 Community Night 1

The Dads Club sponsored a game we called “Fish Tank Flip” with the goal being to win a prize by successfully landing a coin in one of several small containers sitting on the bottom of the water filled aquarium. The game was very popular with a queue of people waiting to play during the entire event, and we raised well over $100 for the school. A special thank you to Tarun, Avinash, Ravi and Joseph for volunteering to set up and run the game.

Overall the event was a big success but unfortunately several of the bounce houses and other games had to be halted at times due to a lack of volunteers. We saw many members of this mailing list attending the event and we want to stress that we need you to step up and volunteer, both with the Dads Club and the PTO, if you want to continue enjoying these events with your family in the future.
