All posts for the month April, 2015

Next week is the official Teacher Appreciation Week and the PTO is planning a breakfast for the teachers Wednesday morning May 6th.  You may recall the Dads Club does a teachers appreciation breakfast during Valentine’s week but the PTO has asked for a little bit of help setting up the breakfast next week.  We just need a few guys to help from 7-7:30AM on Wednesday May 6th so let me know if you can help.

Many people doubted the 2015 CISD Elementary Dads Golf Challenge would ever tee off considering all the rain we’ve had lately but the golf gods (and the brilliant sunshine) shone down upon us on Saturday.  Although the course was a little wet, the weather was beautiful and the soft greens offered up some low scores. The Kastrounis/Coenraad team from R.E. Lee were the low scorers while the father and child team of Zeff/Jenkins from Mockingbird won the high score prize. Michael Kastrounis won the long drive competition, Rich Schmidgall won the closest to the pin competition, while Chantel Kastrounis won the longest put competition. Thanks to the following sponsors for prize donations:

These prize donations are so important in helping to entice people to register and play. Please show your appreciation by supporting the businesses listed above.
All totaled the event raised over $1,000 for the three participating schools, with more than $400 going to VRE which will be doubled and applied towards technology during the Fall fund raising drive. See more photos of the event in the gallery and make plans to join us at this fantastic event next year!

Dads we still need players for our annual golf tournament this Saturday April 25th at 7:00AM at Riverchase Golf Club in Coppell. Both Mockingbird and Lee elementary schools have more players registered currently which is embarrassing considering VRE is hosting the tournament. This is one of our biggest fund raisers of the year so we need your support. Net proceeds directly support Valley Ranch Elementary School.

Don’t worry if you don’t golf often – many participants are first time golfers!

So you’ve heard about the CISD Elementary Dads’ Clubs Golf Challenge but you’re reluctant to register because you’ve never played golf before. Here are three reasons why this event is the perfect opportunity for you to try the game of golf:

  1. No pressure – The “scramble” format means you don’t have to use your own shot! After each shot, the team picks the best shot landing location from which to hit their next shot. Hit a bad shot? No problem, you get to hit your next shot from the spot of the best shot in your group. Hit another bad shot? No problem again. Maybe your putting stroke is good and you can help your team that way. This format is the perfect way to play without the pressure of worrying whether or not you can hit the ball well consistently.
  2. No embarrassment – There will be other players who have little golf experience so don’t worry about being the “worst golfer on the course”.  Plus, we’ll try to team you up with more experienced golfers.
  3. New friends – golf is a great way to meet new friends or spend time with existing friends.

Golf is by far the most popular participatory sport among senior executives and business people in general; everyone who works for a business should take up the sport. Plus it’s fun and challenging! So come out and have fun, support VRE, and hone or develop your golfing skills. You’ll be glad you did!
